Biography
Matt Sweeney currently coaches at Rollins College as an Assistant Coach, where he assists with all aspects of offensive coaching, as well as organizes recruiting efforts for the Tars. Prior to Rollins, Coach Sweeney spent three years as the Defensive Coordinator at Curry College (Milton, MA) and two years at Husson University (Bangor, ME) as an Interim Head Coach and Assistant Coach.
As a player, Sweeney was a three year starter for Merrimack College, where he set the standard for defensive midfield play. He was Captain of the 2010 Northeast-10 Conference Championship team, and helped the 2009 Merrimack team reach the NCAA Final Four Tournament. He distinguished himself as an offensive force as a Grad student at Husson University, where his experience on the other side of the ball proved valuable in the offensive end. While at Husson, he was a 1st Team All-North Atlantic Conference Selection in 2011 at the midfield position, and competed in both the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) and the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-Star Games.
Sweeney has coached three NEILA East/West All-Stars, eight All-Conference Players, and mentored a 2013 Preseason All-American face-off specialist in his young career. He brings with him experience in coaching a vast array of age groups and experience levels from beginners to elite high school and collegiate players.
